English Events & Ceremonies
Throughout the centuries the Thames has been the setting for numerous ceremonial events, particularly royal occasions, such as arrivals, departures, visits,
coronations, marriages, funerals, processions and pageantry.
The Official Portrait of Queen Elizabeth The Queen's Official Birthday, also known as "the Queen's Birthday" is the day on which the birthday of the monarch of the United Kingdom and
the other Commonwealth realms is officially celebrated later than the actual day of the current monarch's birthday. The exact date of the celebration varies from
country to country, and marks the real birthday of the sovereign only by coincidence (the current monarch, Elizabeth II, was born on 21 April 1926). Most Commonwealth
realms release a Birthday Honours List at this time. The date for observance of The Queen's Birthday at home and abroad in 2011 will be Monday, June 11th.
The government has confirmed that workers will be given an extra bank holiday in 2012 to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. The May Day holiday will
be moved to June 4 and an extra bank holiday added on June 5. June 4 is the Queen's official birthday. The four-day break is expected to include a series of nationwide
celebrations to recognise the 60 years Queen Elizabeth II has been Britain's monarch.
This stunning cover pays tribute to a glorious failure, the Charge of the Light Brigade (or, as National Army Museum curator Alastair Massie calls it "the
most lethal costume party in history").
The official birthday of Her Majesty the Queen is marked each year by a colourful and historic military parade and march-past, known as Trooping the Colour.
