Dutch Currency
![]() Note: Both France and The Netherlands have converted to the Euro and it is suggested that Travellers cheques should be taken in Euros.
The Netherlands officially uses the Euro as the local currency having introduced Euro notes and coins at the beginning of 2002 to replace the
Dutch Guilder. The Euro is divided into 100 cents.
The Euro floats against the other major currencies with the European Central Bank (ECB) targeting inflation rather than the exchange rate,
although intervention will be considered in exceptional circumstances.
As at February 23rd 2006, the Euro was trading around 1.1920 against the dollar and 0.6825 against Sterling (1.465 for Sterling/Euro). On February
23rd 2006 the Euro was trading around 1.427 against Sterling. For 1 UK pound you will, therefore, receive around 1.427 Euros. You may also see the rate
quoted in terms of Euro/Sterling rather than Sterling/Euro giving a rate of around 0.70.
